Find an inspection station

Use the Texas Department of Public Safety Inspection Station Locator to find a station in your area. Travis County is a safety & emissions county.

Pay the inspection station fee

You will pay for the inspection service but NOT your state inspection and emission fees.

Get a Vehicle Inspection Report (VIR)

Make sure the inspector signs the report. Do not lose this report as it proves you passed inspection and emissions testing. You may need to provide it at the time of registration renewal. If you renew your registration online, the system will automatically look up your inspection and insurance information. (In some instances, inspections do not appear in the online system until the following day.)

Note: if you lose your Vehicle Inspection Report, you can find a replacement copy online or by visiting any Texas inspection station.
