Here is what you need to renew online:
- Your vehicle’s license plate number
- Last 4 digits of the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)
- Credit or debit card
The online system automatically checks your inspection, emissions and insurance status. Be aware some inspection stations send their inspection reports in the late evening, which is why we advise you to wait until the day after your inspection to renew online. You save $1 by renewing your registration online.
The Texas Department of Motor Vehicles emails you a notification, showing your registration is current. The notification serves as proof of registration for 31 days, giving plenty of time for your sticker to arrive in the mail. Make sure you keep this proof of registration renewal in your vehicle.
Note: While your sticker can be expired up to six months, remember that your registration sticker renewal date does not change. For example, if your registration expired in January and you renew in June, the sticker you receive comes with the January date for your next renewal.
