Travis County Tax OfficeYou can renew your vehicle registration by mail even if you do not have the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles renewal notice.
Mail us your:
- Renewal notice or Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) (located through the front windshield on the driver’ side or on the doorjamb).
- Copy of your insurance card. Do not mail original documents.
- Check or money order payable to Travis County Tax Office. Do not mail cash or credit card information.
We will electronically check your emissions inspection. If there is an issue with your status, we will ask you to bring the Vehicle Inspection Report (VIR) to the tax office, or you can include a copy of your VIR when you mail in your renewal. Do not send your original inspection document.

Don't forget: There is a $1 discount to renew online and no additional card fees, which may make this method more attractive than renewing by mail. Online renewals also receive a Texas Department of Motor Vehicles emailed notification that serves as proof of registration until your sticker arrives.
