Travis County Tax Office

Dealer-runner program

COVID-19 Alert

Anyone entering our office must agree to follow the mask protocols in place on the date of their visit in order to enter the building.

Transaction drop-off

Dealers and runners may drop-off dealer transactions from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, in the Tax Office HQ Dealer Lobby, 2433 Ridgepoint Drive. Payment is required when the transactions are dropped off.

Dealer Processing Hours

Dealers can process up to three transactions with a tax specialist from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday, in the Tax Office HQ Dealer Lobby, 2433 Ridgepoint Drive. The number of transactions is per dealer, not per runner. If we determine that a dealer is sending multiple runners per day, the dealer will immediately be restricted to dropping off transactions.

Dealer-runner badges

The Travis County tax office requires we properly credential owners and employees of dealerships who submit and/or pick up motor vehicle documents. We can only accept title and registration paperwork from dealers licensed by the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV). State law requires a TxDMV dealer’s license for anyone who sells more than five vehicles a year.

Owners, and runners working for dealers licensed by the TxDMV, must obtain a photo identification badge from the tax office.

Your initial badge and first replacement badge, if necessary, are free; there is a $10 fee for any additional replacement badges.

To obtain a badge if you are the owner of a dealership, you need:

  • A valid U.S. government-issued photo identification (such as your state-issued driver’s license or identification card, or U.S. passport). Foreign IDs are not accepted.
  • A typed letter, on company letterhead, stating that you are the owner of the dealership and authorized to do business on its behalf; the letter should include the date, GDN/P number, and your signature; if letterhead is not available, the letter should include your company name, address, and phone number, and your business card must be attached to the letter.
  • A copy of the dealer’s TxDMV license with the General Distinguishing Number (GDN)/P number.

To obtain a badge if you are an employee of the dealership, you need:
