webDEALER enrollment guide

As of July 1, 2025, ALL motor vehicle dealers licensed by the Texas DMV are required to use the webDEALER application to process both title and registration transactions.

A dealer is not required to post a bond or contract with the county tax office to access or use webDEALER if the county will print the registration stickers. There are two options for how to setup your webDEALER account.

Setup a webDEALER account as a non-deputy

A non-deputy webDEALER account does not require deputization, a bond, or a contract. Registration stickers will be printed by the Travis County Tax Office and picked up by a badged runner at the main tax office. Dealers must have a current ACH authorization on file to process transactions. Download the non-deputy webDEALER enrollment form.

Setup a webDEALER account as a dealer deputy

A dealer deputy is a licensed auto dealer that a county tax assessor-collector has deputized to manage their own vehicle registration sticker inventory. You must be a dealer deputy to print registration stickers at your location.

Dealer deputies are required to carry a bond and sign a contract and deputation forms with the tax office. You must have a current ACH authorization on file to process transactions. Download the dealer deputy webDEALER enrollment form

Dealer-runner badges

The Travis County tax office requires we properly credential owners and employees of dealerships who submit and/or pick up motor vehicle documents. We can only accept title and registration paperwork from dealers licensed by the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV). State law requires a TxDMV dealer’s license for anyone who sells more than five vehicles a year.

Owners, and runners working for dealers licensed by the TxDMV, must obtain a photo identification badge from the tax office.

Your initial badge and first replacement badge, if necessary, are free; there is a $10 fee for any additional replacement badges.

To obtain a badge if you are the owner of a dealership, you need:

  • A valid U.S. government-issued photo identification (such as your state-issued driver’s license or identification card, or U.S. passport). Foreign IDs are not accepted.
  • A typed letter, on company letterhead, stating that you are the owner of the dealership and authorized to do business on its behalf; the letter should include the date, GDN/P number, and your signature; if letterhead is not available, the letter should include your company name, address, and phone number, and your business card must be attached to the letter.
  • A copy of the dealer’s TxDMV license with the General Distinguishing Number (GDN)/P number.

To obtain a badge if you are an employee of the dealership, you need:

  • A valid U.S. government-issued photo identification (such as your state-issued driver’s license or identification card, or U.S. passport). Foreign IDs are not accepted.
  • A typed letter signed by the owner of the dealership, on company letterhead, stating that you are an employee of the dealership and authorized to do business on its behalf; the letter should include the GDN/P number; if letterhead is not available, the letter should include the company name, address, and phone number, and the owner’s business card must be attached.
  • A copy of the dealer’s TxDMV license with the General Distinguishing Number (GDN)/P number.

To renew or replace your badge, you need:

  • A valid U.S. government-issued photo identification (such as your state-issued driver’s license or identification card, or U.S. passport). Foreign IDs are not accepted.
  • Your expired Travis County photo ID badge, if you are renewing.
  • A copy of the dealer’s TxDMV license with the General Distinguishing Number (GDN)/P number.
