Texas residents attending school outside of Texas

Students attending school out-of-state can renew online or by phone at (512) 854-9473 and certify the vehicle is out-of-state. When the vehicle returns to Texas, you must obtain an inspection within 3-days, and pay the state’s portion of the inspection fee at the county tax office.

Out-of-state residents attending school in Texas

Non-resident students

You are not required to register or title your vehicle in Texas, providing you are a full-time student at an accredited Texas college or university. You must keep your registration current and display valid license plates from your home state.
