Title

The title (original or certified copy) from the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles or the titling authority from another state signed by the seller.

Identification

You, the vehicle buyer, must provide government-issued, photo identification, such as a driver’s license, passport or military identification. We can accept a copy of your identification.

Inspection

You must have your vehicle inspected and emissions tested annually in Travis County. The original, signed Vehicle Inspection Report (VIR) serves as your proof you passed inspection and can register your vehicle. You should get your vehicle inspected as soon as you receive the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles registration renewal notice. You can have the vehicle inspected at any Texas Department of Public Safety Inspection Station.

Vehicle insurance

Your Texas insurance must meet or exceed the following minimums:

  • $30,000 per person bodily injury
  • $60,000 per accident bodily injury
  • $25,000 property damage liability

Application for Texas Title (130-U):

  • Serves as the legal bill of sale
  • Original signature of the buyer is required
  • Original signature of the seller is optional
  • Legal name on the buyer's government-issued, photo identification (driver’s license, passport, military identification, etc.) must match the name on the Application for Texas Title (130-U)

If an alteration or error has been made on the assignment of title, please use the Statement of Fact to Correct Error on Title.
