Travis County Tax Office is making a push for voter registrations by stocking local post offices with postage-paid applications in English and Spanish.
The last day to register to vote is June 15 for the July 14 runoff and special election. Prior to the pandemic, the county’s more than 4,000 deputy volunteer registrars had registered a record 93.5% of the county’s eligible voters.
“We are all having to adjust how we do our business,” said Bruce Elfant, the county’s voter registrar and tax assessor-collector. “Our normal operation involved deploying our civic army of volunteer deputy registrars throughout the county so we could bring voter registration to you.”
Now, volunteer deputy registrars will ensure the post offices are fully stocked with postage-paid voter registration applications, Elfant added the voter registration application also is available on the tax office website, TravisCountyTax.org, but it requires the applicant to print and pay for the postage to mail it into the tax office.
Post offices throughout the county are open weekdays with some offering Saturday hours. Elfant encourages eligible voters to fill out the application, either in the post office or their car, and to mail it on the spot.
