The Travis County Tax Office plans a marathon voter registration effort on Monday, the last day to register for the March primary election.
“We are trying to make it easy for everyone who is eligible to register to vote,” said Bruce Elfant, the county’s voter registrar and tax assessor-collector. “Thanks to our more than 3,000 volunteer deputy registrars you should be able to find a voter registration table close to where you live or work.”
Travis County residents can check their voter registration status at www.VoteTravis.com.
“Make sure your voter registration is current and that you are registered at the correct address,” Elfant said. “If not or if you aren’t sure of your status, simply register again at one of our voter registration tables. As I always say, ‘When in doubt, fill it out.’”
The main tax office, 5501 Airport Blvd., and the tax office’s voter outreach branch, 4705 Heflin Lane, will offer voter registration until the midnight cutoff on Monday.
Elfant advises not to mail your voter registration application on Monday. “Many post offices will place a next-day postmark on your envelope, which will bar you from voting in the March primary,” he said. By law, the tax office must reject any applications with a Tuesday postmark from voting in the primary election, though the applicant can vote in subsequent elections.
Early voting begins Feb. 18. Election Day is on Super Tuesday, March 3.
