Travis County Tax Office

June 3, 2019

Travis County officials at the North campus on Airport Boulevard urge residents to arrive early if they must come to the campus or use alternative offices and methods for doing business while a construction project is underway that limits parking.

The Commissioners Court authorized the building of Travis Flats, which will provide 146 affordable housing units and consolidate the county’s Health and Human Services offices. The construction reduces public parking for the current Airport Boulevard tenants, including the offices of the County Clerk and Tax Assessor-Collector housed in the Nelda Wells Spears Building.

“My office was not involved in the planning and execution of the construction project – we sympathize with our customers,” said County Clerk Dana DeBeauvoir. “Some of the services we provide at the Nelda Wells Spears Building require in-person contact, so many of our customers have no choice; they must come to the office.

“There is not going to be any quick in and quick out of our offices during construction, but customers can try to come earlier in the day, between 8 to 9:30 a.m., when crowds will be lighter,” DeBeauvoir added.

Tax Assessor-Collector Bruce Elfant is asking customers to use the tax office’s least busy location in Southwest Austin, 8656 W. Highway 71, Building B, to title a vehicle, obtain new license plates or a handicap placard. He encourages motor vehicle owners to renew their registrations online at Texas.gov or at county H-E-B or Fiesta Mart stores, and property owners to pay their taxes online, TravisCountyTax.org.

“Construction always creates inconvenience, whether it is a road project or a building, but the public can help by not coming to our Airport Boulevard location during the 20-month construction project,” Elfant said. “If you do plan to come here, be sure to pack your patience as we are already seeing drivers frustrated by the parking situation.”
