Travis County Tax Office

AUSTIN, TX – Celia Israel, Travis County Tax Assessor-Collector and Voter Registrar, released the following statement regarding voter registration application data transmitted by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS):

“Despite being caught off guard by our state partners right before the voter registration deadline, we have updated the Texas Elections Administration Management (TEAM) database to reflect the additional 32,000 records from the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS). To complete this monumental, but critical work, we expedited training approvals from the Secretary of State and leveraged employees from other divisions within the tax office willing to work nights and weekends. I would like to thank my tax office team members, who elevated their game to ensure everyone who registered through DPS was entered and will be eligible to vote in the Nov. 3 General Election.

Our work is demanding, time-sensitive, and vital to democracy. We still have about 20,000 paper voter registration applications to enter, and we are still receiving applications that were mailed by the deadline. We will continue working long hours over the next week to process these.

Early voting begins October 19. My mission is to ensure we provide the most accurate, up-to-date voter roll to our Travis County Clerk’s office at the start of early voting.”
