Voter registration ends Monday, Oct. 5, for those wanting to vote or needing to change their address for the Nov. 3 Joint General and Special Election.

Citizens can register to vote by:

  • Mailing a voter registration application with a postmark no later than Oct. 5, 2026.
  • Visiting any of the six Travis County Tax Office locations.
  • Filling out the voter registration application at VoteTexas.gov, printing it, and mailing it or dropping it off at any Travis County Tax Office.
  • Submitting an application to one of more than 5,000 Volunteer Deputy Registrars at voter registration events leading up to the deadline.

Travis County Tax Assessor-Collector and Voter Registrar Celia Israel reminds voters registering by mail not to wait until the last minute. “Simply dropping your application into a postal box may result in a late application, which will prevent you from voting in this election. The best way to make sure your application is on time is to walk into the post office and request a manual postmark at the counter. You can also drop the application off at the tax office instead of the post office,” she said.

Registered voters can update their name or address online if they moved within Texas using the Texas Secretary of State Voter Name and Address Changes system.

“I understand voters might be reluctant to update information online after hearing about recent issues with DPS,” Israel said. “Online address changes were not impacted, and it is a safe, secure and convenient way to make an update before the deadline.”

In Texas, voters provide proof of identity in two steps: first when they register to vote and next at the polls. When registering to vote, applicants must provide either their Texas driver’s license number, Texas identification card number, the last four digits of their Social Security number, or an affirmation that they have not been issued any of these identifications. The Texas secretary of state verifies identity and citizenship electronically based on the application. At the polls, voters must provide one of seven acceptable forms of identification or fill out a Reasonable Impediment Declaration. Visit the Travis County Clerk for information about photo identification required at the polls.

“If you are a new resident, a student, or had a recent change in name or address, and you don’t have an updated Texas driver’s license or Texas identification card, you can still register and vote,” Israel said.

Special voter registration events leading up to the deadline include the Don’t Ghost Your Vote Voter Registration Pop-up on Saturday, Oct. 3, at ACC Highland, 6101 Highland Campus Drive, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and extended hours on Monday, Oct. 5, at the Nelda Wells Spears Building, 2433 Ridgepoint Drive, from 8 a.m. until midnight.
