Beginning July 8, the Travis County Tax Office motor vehicle division will serve and support the Travis County community exclusively. The tax office will process motor vehicle transactions only for record holders, buyers, sellers, or lienholders with Travis County addresses. Please refer to these updates below starting July 8:
Registration Transactions:
- We process registration renewals if the record shows a Travis County address for either the owner's address, the registration renewal address, or the vehicle location address.
- We issue temporary permits only to residents/businesses within Travis County. The application must include a Travis County address or follow other criteria as approved by the Tax Assessor-Collector.
- We issue replacement plates for any Texas customer appearing in-person. Power of Attorney is not accepted to process replacement plate transactions for customers outside of Travis County.
- We process disabled placards and plates in the county where the applicant resides or receives medical treatment.
Title Transactions:
- We process title transfers for customers if one of the following parties resides in Travis County: Buyer, Seller, Lienholder, or Record holder.
- We ensure that the applicant is a resident of Travis County for initial titling for vehicles such as homemade trailers.
- We process title transactions for new residents to Travis County
Any of the following items showing a Travis County address are acceptable proof of residency:
- Texas driver license
- Texas identification card
- Texas license to carry
- Travis County voter registration card
- Mortgage or lease agreement
- Utility bill
- Proof of insurance
- School transcript (for students)
- Texas Secretary of State business documents (for companies)
- Business card (for companies)
