How do I find out if I am registered to vote in Travis County?

How do I change my political party affiliation?

In Texas, you do not declare a political party at the time of registration. In a primary election you will select a party at the polls in order to receive a ballot, and you may only participate in the same party's run-off election.

When does my voter registration expire?

Voter registration is permanent. However, a registration is purged after a four-year period in "suspense" status. The voter registration is placed in "suspense" after two attempted mailings to a voter have been returned by the U.S. Postal Service as undeliverable for any reason.

When will I receive my voter registration certificate?

Certificates expire every other year. New certificates are automatically sent to current registered voters prior to the expiration date.

If you are registering to vote for the first time, or making a name or address change, you will receive a Voter Registration Certificate within 30 days of submitting a completed voter registration application. 

If you submitted your application at 17 years and 10 months of age (eligibility date), your Voter Registration Certificate will be mailed once your turn 18.

What does my voter registration certificate look like?

My voter registration certificate is lost. How can I request a replacement?

Duplicate Voter Registration Cards are sent to the mailing address on record. To request a new card:

  • Visit us at 5501 Airport Blvd, Austin, TX 78751 for a same day replacement

Am I required to show my voter registration certificate at the polls?

No. However, you are required to show an approved photo ID. If you are not able to obtain an approved photo ID, you may vote by signing a declaration and providing supporting documentation. Visit the Travis County Clerk's Elections Division for information about what to bring with you to vote.

Can I vote if I did not change my address 30 days prior to Election Day?

It is possible to vote even if you did not change your address.

Did you move within Travis County? If you were already registered to vote in Travis County and you moved to another Travis County address, you can vote at any Early Voting location, at any Vote Center on Election Day, or at the precinct where you are currently registered to vote on Election Day. Find your polling place at Vote Travis.

Did you move outside Travis County? You may be eligible to vote a limited ballot in your new county of residence if you were registered to vote in Travis County at the time you moved. Visit the Texas Secretary of State to locate the elections office in your new county for further assistance with limited ballots.

Are you new to Travis County? You may be eligible to vote a limited ballot in Travis County if you were registered to vote in another county at the time you moved. Contact the Travis County Clerk's Elections Division for further assistance with limited ballots.

How do I cancel my voter registration?

To cancel your own voter registration, submit the Request to Cancel Registration form. To cancel registration on behalf of a deceased family member, submit the Request to Cancel Registration of Deceased Voter form.

Why does my voter registration record appear online?

Voter registration records are public information and are available in person, by phone, and online. Identification information such as driver's license and social security numbers are not public information and are redacted from the records.

How can I remove my voter registration record from the website?

Submit the Request for Voter Record Web Suppression form. Any voter who wishes to have their information removed is eligible to request web suppression.

How can I remove my voter registration record from all public records?

Submit the Request for Peace Officer Confidentiality form. The list containing who qualifies for record removal is included on the form.

Do I have to be a resident of Travis County to be a VDR in Travis County?

No. You must be a Texas resident and you must return the applications for all Travis County voters to the Travis County Tax Office within 5 calendar days.

How often are the maps updated?

Unregistered and Suspended Voter Maps are updated weekly. Other maps are updated after boundary changes occur.

Which precinct maps are available from the Travis County Tax Office?

All jurisdiction and precinct maps are available.

How can I request a printed map or another map that is not available online?

Does the data available for download from the online data portal contain date of births?

No, date of births are not allowed to be published for the web. If you need a file with the date of births, please contact our office to complete a data request.

Does the data available for download from the online data portal contain voting history?

Yes, there are two files available for download that contain voting history back to 2004. Make sure you select the files that say, “Registered Voters with Election History Compressed.”

If I don’t want to download the data from the data portal, can I still purchase data from voter registration?

Yes, if you are not able to download the data please contact our office via phone or email to complete a data request.
