What should my video include?

Videos must promote the importance of voter registration and include one of the two (square or horizontal version) “Register. Be Counted. Vote!” logos.

How many students may enter together as a team?

There are no limits to the size of each team, but all team members must be in middle school or high school and reside in Travis County.

How long does my video have to be?

Videos can be three different lengths: 15, 30 and 60 seconds long. Submit your entry into the appropriate category.

How will the videos by judged?

The videos will be judged by a selected panel of broadcast and/or film experts that will rank each video based on various criteria, including creativity, technical quality, production quality, messaging, etc.

What is the deadline?

The deadline to upload a video into the contest is 5 p.m. Nov. 6, 2017.

How do I submit my video?

All video submissions must be embedded on the YouthCam-Student PSA Contest website via YouTube.

What are the accepted video formats?

HD-MP4 (Video codecs:H.264 – Audio Codec:MP3)

What forms do I need to fill out?

The entry form and the photo release form(s) must be submitted with your entry. You also must read the contest rules and accept the Terms of Agreement.

How will the award winners be announced?

An awards celebration is scheduled for Jan. 13, 2018 at the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema on South Lamar. Winners will be notified in advance of the event.

Can I enter more than once in each category?

You may only enter each category once, but all your entries may be submitted to the People’s Choice award category.

Do I need anything special to enter?

You will need a You Tube account, which is free, so you can upload your videos there.

What does it cost to enter this contest?

There are no entry fees. However, once you submit your work it becomes the property of Travis County, which may use your video as it sees fit.

What will the videos be used for?

Travis County will use the videos to promote voter registration and voting online and for television broadcast.

Why do I need photo releases?

You need photo releases from the people you feature in your videos so we know they approve of being filmed. For those under the age of 18, you will need a signature from a parent or legal guardian. If you are creating an animated video without any real people in it, then you do not need to submit any photo releases.

How do I submit the photo releases?

When you upload your video to You Tube, be sure to scan and email the releases to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. Put “PSA Contest – (NAME OF YOUR VIDEO)” in the email subject line. This will provide enough information for us to post your video BUT you must mail the photo releases with original signatures to: PSA Contest, Travis County Tax Office, 5501 Airport Blvd., Austin, TX. 78751. Be sure to tell us what PSA the releases pertain to when you mail them in. If we do not receive the original photo release forms in the mail within 10 business days of your entry, we may disqualify your entry from the contest.

YouthCam – Student PSA Contest is a collaboration of the Travis County Tax Office – Voter Registration Division; Travis County Clerk Office – Elections Division; League of Women Voters of the Austin Area. Many local businesses are providing prizes.
